Individual VS GroupIs the group really a rational judge?

The power of collective intelligence is indeed amazing. Wikipedia, which was strongly criticized by lots of people who said that the fundamental idea of it is abstruse, has been successfully launched by uncountable Internet users. Surprisingly, people have volunteered to describe about the certain field that they know better than other ones. As the information, which was posted on the Internet just like that, has been modified by numerous professionals, the quality of information on the Wikipedia has reached the level of specialty publication. In addition, as it's posted on the Internet, the attribute of the Internet sometimes makes it better source than experts' document. However, frankly speaking, group action does not always head to rational point. This is easily observed by circumstances that happen around you.

There is a saying 'In the village of the one eye, a person with two eyes is abnormal.' That means, even if a person stresses the truth, it could be regarded as bollocks. Likewise, in a social group, it is likely that there would be single representing idea which is supported by many people, and if one insists a new opinion varies from prior law, the opinion would be grossly crushed. Thus, the mind of the individual, paralyzed by the crowd psychology, becomes lower than before the formation of the crowd. Also, Individuals in the crowd are not free, and crowds have a negative impact on their thinking. In the end, the crowd serves to weaken the individual's creative intelligence.

This phenomenon could also be found in political arena. The development of a tyrant could be recognized as a phenomenon which is formed in irrational group, but in reality, it is more likely to be formed in democracy. In the democracy, a demagogue, who represents public interest, is given special treatment. Similarly, one of the strategies to win the election is to nominate election pledges that would be loved by many people - which is called 'populism.' For example, Venezuela, which was known as a paradise of left wing, full of welfare populism, has inevitably met a spurt in prices. You can also find another similar phenomenon in stock market. If a certain group of people makes lots of money by investing on certain field, the other people start to invest go after them, and the result of it is literally catastrophe.

As you can see above, the public is not highly a group of people that consists of rational decision makers. They usually make irrational decision in great likelihood. So how should we cope with this situation? Personally, we should develop a critical and proactive attitude that does not compromise with injustice, and we should create a social climate that exclusively excludes individuals who make different statements from the public. This will help our society to raise our standard.
