We look for happiness during our lives, and ‘how to become happy’ is one of our most interests. Everyone questions about happiness but not everyone finds them, or in other words. feel satisfied in their lives. Why are people so unhappy?
Isn’t our attitude of underestimating trivial moments the main reason of being unhappy? Life is a continuation of moments. Every moment gives a different experience. A normal man must not be desperate all the time. He should have a moment when he used to be happy, used to be bright. Everyone experiences a moment when he or she feels they are ‘happy’. Then why do people tend to believe their lives are ‘unhappy’? It seems to be the matter of what he or she values when assessing one’s life. We usually emphasize more on the result than the process we take over to achieve one. In our lives, the big, strong memories we have are similar to the result, on the other hand, the moments are kind of the process. Therefore, we tend to emphasize the big events, the long-lasting memories, more than the moments in life. The moments are, however, where most happiness. Although the result might not be as expected, we often find joy during the process. Nevertheless, we often underestimate the happiness in those slight moments.
On the contrary, the result or the memories people overestimate are not always filled with happy moments. The experiment of the psychologist Carnman and physician R d mieur shows how our ‘memory ego’ is made. Memory ego consists of experiences that are usually stimulating. Those stimulating experiences may include happy memories. But most of the time they tend to be painful experiences. In addition, it is natural of people who focus on memories to feel unhappy and unsatisfied about their lives than a person who values every experience and moment during life.
Therefore, if one wants to become satisfies in their lives or find happiness, the way is simple. We should look after the sight moments. Those we often used to pass by may contain the real happy moments in our lives. When looking back over our days, we must not only evaluate the big memories, since some small experiences tend to contain more memories of happiness than the long lasting ones.
To add, it is also important to keep moderation. Both being excessive and being insufficient if negative. We must seek for meditation in our lives, and moreover, when we look after it. The moral excellence or virtue which we value are accomplished while seeking meditation in lives. For instance, courage is somewhere middle between being excessively reckless, and being coward. Therefore, a better life which we can feel satisfied about can be attained through keeping moderation.
Thus, to find happiness in our lives, we should emphasize more on every moment. We might pass by the trivial experiences, but those may contain the happiness you seeked for your whole life! Also, be a moderate person. A satisfying life can be found somewhere between being reckless and being mean. The process, the experience are which have value rather than the result as a whole. Life seems to be the same.
